Mountainside, a small township of only 4 square miles and approximately 2,500 households, was ranked by New Jersey Magazine as one of the best places to live in both 2008 and 2010. The borough has a quaint three-block retail district, including a bakery, a deli, a grocery store, an antique shop, a florist, a bank, a couple of restaurants, and a post office—and one of the lowest tax rates in Union County. Mountainside boasts top-rated schools (including Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Berkeley Heights Public Schools) and NJ Transit bus transportation to both Newark and New York City. Mountainside is also home to a portion of Echo Lake Park, Union County’s Trailside Nature & Science Center, and numerous playfields and hiking trails within the larger Watchung Reservation.

With a population of just over 7,000 people, Mountainside also possesses a highly-rated school system and quick access to I78 and Rt 22.
